My husband and I love this easy homemade lasagna recipe because it brings us back to our childhoods. We both grew up with Italian grandmothers who made lasagna from scratch on special occasions. When we started our own family, we wanted to carry on the tradition but didn’t have the time or energy to make it from scratch. That’s when we discovered this recipe! It’s easy enough to make on a weeknight but still has all the classic flavors we love. Our kids now request this lasagna for their birthday dinners and it has become a staple in our household.

Preheat your oven to 350°F.
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the lasagna noodles until they are al dente, according to the package instructions.
Drain the noodles and rinse them under cold water. Set them aside.
In a large skillet or Dutch oven, brown the ground beef, Italian sausage, onion, and garlic over medium-high heat until there is no pink remaining. Drain any excess fat.
Stir in the pasta sauce, tomato paste, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Let the sauce simmer over medium heat for about 5 minutes, or until it has thickened.
In a separate bowl, mix together 1 1/2 cups of mozzarella cheese, 1/4 cup of parmesan cheese, ricotta cheese, chopped parsley, egg, and salt.
Spread 1 cup of the meat sauce in the bottom of a 9×13 inch baking dish. Place 3 of the cooked lasagna noodles on top of the sauce. Layer with 1/3 of the ricotta mixture and 1 cup of the meat sauce. Repeat this layering twice more, and then finish with a layer of 3 noodles topped with the remaining meat sauce.
Cover the dish with foil and bake it for 45 minutes.
Remove the foil and sprinkle the remaining 2 1/2 cups of mozzarella cheese and 1/4 cup of parmesan cheese on top. Bake for another 15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly. If you like, you can broil the lasagna for 2-3 minutes to get the cheese extra crispy.
